MODIFIED PROPOSAL Following the public meeting held on September 14, the Kirkendall Neighbourhood Association organized a committee of citizens to meet with the developer to discuss the concerns raised at the meeting. This committee met twice. At the second meeting, the developer presented some modifications to the proposal in an attempt to create a development that is more acceptable to the community. This committee was pleased with the changes presented and is supportive of modified design. The developer is now proposing 32 units (down from 42) ranging from 869 to 1200 square feet and a building that is 3 metres higher. Twenty-eight (28) parking spots will still be provided underground and negotiations are underway to provide additional parking on the Aberdeen Gardens site. The developer also committed to forming a "Development Co-ordination Committee", a citizens advisory committee, to work with him on issues such as the building materials (stone, finishes, colours, windows, balconies etc.), timing of construction, and other issues as they arise. Note that the on-line report does not reflect these changes, however staff is working with the developer to formally introduce the modifications on Tuesday. Chedoke Golf Course Channel Maintenance Environmental Assessment In 2008, the City of Hamilton initiated a study to consider a wide range of options to address recent significant erosion and maintenance problems that have occurred within three waterfall/open channel systems which convey flows from storm sewer outlets down the escarpment toward the Chedoke Golf Course. The study has investigated and assessed required watercourse reparations and addressed environmental impacts of the proposed alternatives. For more information, visit the project website. WEST HAMILTON INNOVATION DISTRICT - LAND USE AND SERVICING REVIEW The City of Hamilton has completed its review of land use, zoning and infrastructure in the West Hamilton Industrial Area. The study area includes the site of the future McMaster Innovation Park on Longwood Road. Trinity Developments appealed the zoning designation to the Ontario Muncipal Board. Trinity withdrew its appeal in October 2009. Frid Street Extension Environmental Assessment The City of Hamilton has identified the need to complete a road extension of Frid Street at the intersection of Frid St. and Chatham St. to Longwood Road. Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental assessment have been completed as part of the Kirkendall Traffic Management Study. The Frid Street Extension Municipal Class EA will address Phases 3 and 4. For more information, visit the project website. The Environmental Assessment report was presented to the Public Works Committee on June 2, 2008. Read the Report. The Environmental Assessment for the Frid Street Extension has been completed. More West Chedoke Waterfall Access The City of Hamilton has initiated a study to consider a range of options to provide public access from the Chedoke Stairs to view the West Chedoke Waterfall Cluster. The City, in partnership with the Hamilton Conservation Authority and the Bruce Trail Conservancy, wish to promote outdoor healthy living by enhancing Hamilton’s extensive trails network with an opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the waterfall area. The study will investigate and assess the feasibility of public access along the edge of the Chedoke Creek channel to viewing areas near each of the four waterfalls behind the Chedoke Golf Course Club House.
